You know you’re at a Junior Golf Tournament when…

Last Thursday I finished up the last of 5 Junior Golf Tournaments that I participated in this summer. I love golf and I love being around other people that also love golf, so… whether I did well that particular day or not, it was a blast. However, I couldn’t help but notice how much people change when they are around others their age that they will probably never see again.

To help you see what I mean, I made a list…

  • You know you’re at a Junior Golf Tournament when all of the people in your group shoot at least 10-15 strokes over what they claim to be their “average score.”
  • You know you’re at a Junior Golf Tournament when the person that’s obviously the oldest of the group asks, “So… what grade are you kids in?”
  • You know you’re at a Junior Golf Tournament when two of the players in your group discuss things such as how many alcoholic beverages they have on any given day, while the other two players just look at each other, shake their heads, and laugh.
  • You know you’re at a Junior Golf Tournament when that “oldest person in the group” that I mentioned earlier, “brags” about how many girlfriends he’s had since the 4th of July.
  • You know you’re at a Junior Golf Tournament when only one player is using foul language after bad shots, then slowly but surely… 2 players are using foul language after bad shots. By the end of the day… everyone but me is casually using foul language in any and all situations and conversations.
  • You know you’re at a Junior Golf Tournament when the only words muttered on the first hole are, “Nice shot…” and the only words not obnoxiously bellowed on the last hole are, “Nice shot…”
  • You know you’re at a Junior Golf Tournament when you have to constantly confront the person your keeping score to ask him to recount their score for the last hole, because you counted up one less than they did. 9 times out of ten, their reply begins with these words, “Oh yeah. Ooops, my bad…”
  • And last but not least, (I always enjoyed this one the most) you know you’re at a Junior Golf Tournament when there’s that one player in your group that keeps using terminology that makes absolutely NO sense whatsoever. Examples: “I pushed that one straight left.” (Hey, if you hit it left, that means you pulled it. And if you hit it left, how did you hit it straight too?) “What did you take there?” (in reference to what score I got on that hole) “Looks like that one didn’t take the break.” (If there was a break… the ball would’ve taken it, bud)

Junior Golf Tournaments are always an adventure…
